kat ostrow.... painting in progress

painting in progress ... now hanging on the wall

If I do anything else to this canvas it will not be noticeable on a photograph ....I am happy with it

canvas in progress ... the song

Sdc18535

canvas in progress ... this canvas is finally singing for me. In this moment I am totally crushing on it. This feeling is what the chase is about for me. To capture more than an image to capture also the emotion I sense beneath .... to stand back and say yes that is it. If I do anything else you will most likely not be able to see it in a photograph.

canvas in progress ... sleep(less)

Last night when I should have been sleeping > instead I was wired and painting > this morning  I am alas paying for that ;P

Canvas in progress .... experimentation

Sdc18504

I have been having fun playing with magazine scraps on this painting.... the inspiration to do it came from the Cannon Beach Gallery's January "Green" themed juried show..... experimentation is key to growth as an artist. I have decided that starting with my next canvas I will wait to post the "in progress" until I am finished. I want to see if that will affect my ability to leap off into the unknown and take risks in my work.

canvas in progress.... focus

I am focusing in on my intention.... I can appreciate beautiful work but for me art needs to say something to really pull me in. I am closing in on my intention and in the process of creating, working through my motivations.

Canvas in progress .... patience

I don't think I have patience > I plow right on through, often recklessly, but as I look back on the last few weeks and my painting I can see I have been exploring, waiting patiently to find something that truly revs my creative engine. Finally I have found an interesting direction... for ages I have meant to explore using recycled materials and multi media. The Cannon Beach Gallery's " Green" themed January juried show gave me the push I needed to explore.

Canvas in progress ... what it is to be

Sdc18457

Themed jury shows usually turn me off and so I had set aside the notion of entering anything into January's green themed juried show at the Cannon Beach Gallery. Today I just decided to play with the green paint that I never use and I was surprised to find the inspiration for a piece there waiting for me. What it is to be. envy, growth and action. That potential that is just over there beyond "just showing up". What happens if I stop watching someone else do what I would like to do and just begin?

My latest cavas in progeess ...finishing up

Sdc18440

I kept flipping the background on this today > each time I carried it into the figure changing the mood of the piece. I am surprised to find this simple lemony yellow is my favorite. It adds an interesting sunny counterpoint to the figure's "blueness".

Canvas in progress.... patience

I am patient > I show up and let the work pull me along. I wait for something to happen that in that moment truly speaks to me. I love this ... enough to step back and let it breath for a moment before continuing.

#draw365 ....drawing and painting on my 15 by 30 inch canvas in progress

Sdc18431

I think best with drawing materials in my hand. At this point the canvas resonates for me. up until now I have been focusing in on what it is trying to say. The black is charcoal so I won't be stopping yet but I envision myself finishing up soon. ( not that that means it is destined to play out that way.)
